"New year, new you" often surpasses general goals like waking up earlier or eating healthier. The idea of a fresh start at the beginning of the year is a great time to get organize and clean house. But when does decluttering and annual cleaning cross the line in simply being wasteful?
For the month of September, I went strictly zero waste. By zero waste (the most common term used for it), I really mean zero trash. For a month, I avoided the use of any product that would create trash and limited myself to products that can be reused, recycled, or composted. But can you really be zero waste long term?
I went zero waste for the entire month of September, "Trash-free September" as I like to call it. It was a difficult experience that altered pretty much every aspect of my life and has changed the way I look at plastic and packaging forever.
